Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about lunar time.

How Tide Clocks Work

A standard clock tracks the sun (24 hours). A tide clock tracks the moon.

The moon orbits the earth every 24 hours and 50 minutes (the "Lunar Day"). Because the moon is the primary force moving the tides, our quartz movements are tuned to this exact cycle.

How to set your clock

1. Find the time of High Tide for your location (use our calculator below).

2. Set the clock to the 'High Tide' position at exactly that time.

3. For maximum precision, do this on the day of a Full Moon or New Moon.

Are they accurate?

Yes. For most coastlines (including Jersey, UK, and the US East Coast), the semi-diurnal tide cycle is very consistent. However, atmospheric pressure and strong winds can occasionally affect real-time tides by a few minutes.

What battery do I need?

Our movements use a single standard AA battery. We recommend using a high-quality alkaline battery and replacing it once a year.

Do you make custom locations?

Absolutely. As a commercial skipper, Greg can chart almost any harbour, bay or beach in the world. Please use the Custom Order Page to request a commission.

Where do you ship?

We ship worldwide from our workshop in St. Clement, Jersey. All international orders are securely packaged to ensure they arrive in perfect condition.
